Happy Birthday Mr Nice Guy

If you are looking for a nice bloke you need look no further than our store man Phil Joce who today celebrates his 48th birthday. Phil joined Instanta over 20 years ago and has been a model employee since then. His punctuality and sickness records over the last twenty years are such that there is just one entry dated 1997. All our punctuality and sickness records are pretty good but Phil's is remarkable. Married for 25 years to Pat, Phil is the proud father to Calvin, Nichola and Kirsty and is a grandad too with Louis arriving almost three years ago. Phil originates from Ilfracombe but has lived in Southport for 25 years. However, listening to his accent you would be forgiven if you thought that he only moved here last week and if the Archers are ever looking for a new new cast member Phil could be their man. Outside Instanta Phil, like me, is a keen film buff and enjoys all the latest releases on DVD. He used to enjoy a part time job at the local bingo hall as a bit of eye candy for the ladies. If you ever need someone to rely upon, Phil's your man. Have a great day Phil.

I was messing around on the Internet last night and came across another catering industry blogger. The interesting thing was that this blogger seemed to have some sort of wanker, bastard, Tourette's that terrible affliction whereby words spontaneously appear apparently without purpose or intent they bugger just happen. The blog would start with something like "Got up this morning to three feet of snow ,catering equipment, and then went and cleaned the car convection oven and drove off to work Lincat". I was mystified by this form of catering equipment Tourette's until I recalled a recent conversation with Mark Jones from Workhouse Marketing who told me how a blog can attract more traffic to your website by the clever use of key words. And there was me writing this stuff every day because I thought people might be genuinely interested in Phil's birthday and my love of eBay. As for traffic it's hardly surprising that I've only had a couple of mopeds through so far.

Tomorrow night's Orange Wednesday film is Watchmen. Completely outside our normal sort of choice but good reviews mean we'll give it a try. Got a few nerves about the Real Madrid match tonight. Will we arrive early enough to get a seat in the pub for our pre match steak and chips? This is an important European night tradition and I suspect that tonight may be busier than usual. As for the match? This one's got 0-0 written all over it.

Did you read about that clever chimp in the papers this morning? Yes , Santino a male chimpanzee at Furuvik zoo has shown amazing foresight and planning. When the visitors have gone home he busies himself by making piles of rocks to use as ammunition to pelt at the next day's crowds. When the zoo is closed for winter he stops building his overnight armoury. A bit like Gordon Brown really. He is preparing big piles of money to throw at us all. And if he misses? Why he'll just make some more.

I was a bit worried to hear on the news that a major factoring company is having problems. Many of our suppliers use factors and we pay the factors instead of paying the suppliers. But if the factors go down some of our suppliers could be in big trouble. It's not something you can unravel overnight. One factor's share price dropped to 1.8p. Now that is something to worry about.

I'll finish today with the sad news that You Tube are going to stop showing music videos in the UK due to a dispute over advertising revenue. But at least we can still show videos appropriate to the day's blog. And here's one for the Tourette's catering blogger.
