In Praise of Orange Wednesdays And A Chance For You To Win £100
Here we go again. It's Wednesday and we're off to the pictures on the brilliant Orange Wednesday take a friend for free offer once more. What fantastic value it is. We have been to the movies almost every week this year and have only spent about £50. This week it's the International starring Clive Owen. I believe that it's a sort of James Bond/Bourne thriller and the reviews were quite encouraging. I have to like Clive Owen as he's a fellow red despite not being a scouser.
And speaking of value, I was talking about value and inflation with colleagues in the office yesterday and using my favourite method of measuring inflation, the Mars bar index. Don't laugh. Mars bars have been a pretty good indicator of how the value of things have changed over the last fifty years. When I was a kid I used to pay sixpence for a Mars bar. Going to a match at Anfield cost four shillings which was eight Mars bars. Going to the cinema was about the same price. Today the pictures costs about ten Mars bars but going to Anfield? that's a massive sixty three Mars bars. So the cinema has gone up marginally in 45 years but football inflation is way and above house price inflation and that bubble must be heading towards bursting.
And so to your chance to win £100 from my own pocket. As regular readers know I have been pushing my son Paul's game show The Colour of Money relentlessly. Not just because he's a wonderful son but because it is honestly a wonderful game. ITV are in trouble with falling advertising revenues and I was annoyed to hear the News Of The World TV critic Ian Hyland on the Today programme this morning once more likening the Colour of Money to Deal or No Deal when discussing ITV's situation. I know there are similarities but they are just on the surface and beneath that surface is an exciting and difficult game which, unlike Deal Or No Deal is not just down to luck.
Anyway to win you have to do the following.
1 Log onto http://colour.itv.com or click here and register a user name.
2 Let me know the user name you are using by either leaving a comment on the blog or by emailing me at john.brassey@btopenworld.com
3 Play the game.
4 It is possible to cheat in the game online if playing multiple games and running your score up so my prize will go to the blog reader who has notified me of their user name and is highest on the leader board on Friday 6th March at 4.30pm with a score of between £55,000 and £100,000. Scores over £100,000 will not count.
5 That person will win £50 if they use a photo or default icon in the leader board but £100 if they use web cam footage of them celebrating.
6 If you win say £55,000 and want to try for a higher figure, start another game and deliberately lose it to clear your first score. Then try again.
7 If two players tie, the prize will be split equally.
8 This is open to anybody who reads this blog and yes that does include Instanta staff.
You would have thought that a trip to the dentist was just a straightforward biannual event but judging from a letter received by someone we know this week it could be a lot more hazardous than you might think. The letter involved a visit made in 2004 and in seven days they will discover if it was a case of much ado about nothing or a serious blight on their health. I won't elaborate at the moment but all will be revealed next week.
I'll finish with the latest ad for my favourite. Orange Wednesdays
