Britain's Got Talent - Or How Video Killed The Music Hall Star

We watched Britain's Got Talent last night. Somehow managed to miss the last two series but I couldn't help feeling that the show demonstrated perfectly how TV drains every drop of talent from performers, chews it up and spits it out with a voracious and unquenchable appetite for more. Amongst the contenders were a Greek father and son double act. The overweight pair's take on Michael Flatley's Riverdance was hilarious but an act that was original and could have amused and surprised thousands during a Blackpool summer season has been seen by 8 million people and won't be funny next time. Likewise an obese burlesque act. Yes we laughed. But will we laugh again next week? The moment of the show came, however , when Susan Boyle one of those ridiculous misfit patsies who provide filler for shows like this, a 47 year old woman going on 67 who looked like she'd come for an audition for Ten Years Younger and was a dead cert to be rubbish, turned out to have the voice of an angel and brought the house down.Truly a classic piece of TV that had Marion sobbing into her cushion. Well done whoever edited that.

It's the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster on Wednesday and my thoughts go out to the families of my 96 fellow Liverpool fans who lost their lives.

I'm getting quite excited about the launch of the sous vide digital water baths. I've been busy writing the sales literature and trying to come up with unique selling points. Usually there are lots of selling points but not all are unique but so far I think the following are all unique to our product.

1 Pumped water to ensure an even temperature throughout the baths - other machines use a cumbersome outside agitator as an option
2 Set temperature and actual temperature displayed as against set temperature only
3 Low water audible warning
4 Boil dry protection
5 Extra depth
6 Five digital timers allowing chefs to monitor how long individual portions have been immersed at a glance
7 Hinged safety glass lid
8 Racking system for suspending sous vide pouches in the water

That's a good start and I'm sure I will think of more.

I'll leave you for today with the patsy who turned into a princess. The TV moment of the week.
