Slow News Day At The Local Paper

Yes the papers really are scraping the barrel looking for newsworthy items when "Wayne Rooney Doesn't Get A Parking Ticket" makes the front page in the local press. It seems that Wayne and Mrs Rooney were staying at Southport's prestigious Vincent Hotel. The hotel has no on site parking so valet parking was arranged and the hotel chose a pay and display spot around the corner. The concierge arrived late to move the car in the morning and closely avoided a parking ticket. Wow mega story! What next? Number 9 bus three minutes late? Puddles spotted after rain storm? I know it's only local news but please. The local bowls club's coffee morning would have been more interesting.

Mind you its good to see Wayne & Colleen staying here. Let's hope they spent a few quid in the local shops if they could find any still open. And I suppose Wayne would have been pleased with last night at Goodison Park. I am sure that most fellow reds' hearts would have sunk like mine as Lucas was once more inexplicably named on the team sheet. I was actually encouraged by his passing which Rafa had eulogised about in his defence last week but there was an air of inevitability when he managed to get himself sent off for yet another stupid foul. After that it was just a matter of would we make it to the penalty shoot out? Sadly the answer was no. So Lucas has cost us two points in the Premiership and got us knocked out of the FA Cup inside a week. I think Liverpool should appeal against the sending off and say that it should have been straight red and not two yellows so he gets suspended for three games instead of just one.

Here at Instanta after a very busy couple of days it's a very slow and quiet day today. I keep checking that there is paper in the FAX machine but there always is. It's probably another half inch of snow across the country that will have brought everything to a complete standstill.Statisticians claimed that the snow cost the country £1billion earlier this week.We must be a laughing stock with the Scandinavians. Mind you the Guardian had photos of some brilliant snowmen. Remember when they were just a couple of big snowballs on top of each other with a carrot and a few lumps of coal? This is the sort of thing being produced now.

Revolutionary Road last night at the local Vue. A brilliant film. The best word I can use to describe it? Désolé.

The quality of films being shown at the local cinema since Christmas has been amazing. Son Paul cynically tells me it is simply because we are in Oscar season and releasing the films now guarantees that they are around when they get maximum publicity. If this is the case we are going to be scraping around looking for something else to do on Orange Wednesdays after the Oscar ceremony. Until then we've still got Benjamin Button and Doubt due out any day now. I was looking at the odds on Betfair and see that the best supporting actor role looks to be nailed on posthumously for Heath Ledger for his role in The Dark Knight. I haven't seen that film but Michael Shannon in Revolutionary Road was fantastic and must be worth a punt at 85 to 1. Although I suppose that etiquette for a dead actor may well sway the judges in favour of Ledger.

Marion and I always stay and watch the credits at the end of a film and now and then we are rewarded with a post credit clip. There was a brilliant one at the end of Yes Man. I can't find it on You Tube due to copyright issues but here, especially for Max who is out of his seat like a flash the second the credits roll is the audition for it.
