Gordon's Police State Beckons

With news that over 100 protesters have been arrested before they even started protesting, I am starting to worry that Gordon Brown is turning Britain into a Police State. Have we now got a "Thought Police" who know in advance exactly what people are planning to do and arresting them for those thoughts? Since when was "Planning a protest" an arrestable offence? In the last week we have seen a Civil Servant (not a politcian) resigning for planning a slur campaign against prominent non-labour MPs and shadow ministers, and a news vendor dead after a brush with the law. With all our emails and internet activity being logged, the whole political environment has a sinisterly Orwellian feel to it and we need an election now to kick this lot out. If we aren't careful Brown will have a state of emergency up his sleeve and make elections redundant. If Armando Ianucci had written this script his producers would have rejected it as too far fetched.

It's Wednesday tomorrow and I would really like to get back to our cinema going but this week's choice at the local Vue is not up to much. The film we want to see is "Let The Right One In"(Låt den rätte komma in) a Swedish vampire movie that got great reviews. Sadly the powers that choose the films for Vue don't seem to think it will go down well with a Southport audience and we will have to drive to Manchester if we want to see it. We'll see if daughter Sarah (who is here for a couple of days) fancies the drive. We watched Grizzly Man over the weekend. Having Warner Herzog compile this collection of videos made by the tragic and troubled Timothy Treadwell was an inspired choice.

If Liverpool proceed to the next round of the Champions League tonight it will be the best result in my 42 years of supporting the team. On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, perhaps something special may just happen. If it does, I doubt I will see anything like it again in my lifetime. We have brought the Instanta five a side session an hour early to ensure that we all get home in time for the kick off.

Less than a month after she arrived in the world, poor little Ella Rodwell is in hospital with whooping cough. Our thoughts go out to Gary and Faye and we all wish little Ella a very speedy recovery.

I've got to go now. I just got the monthly bill from the bank for the wonderful interest rate collar. It's almost £4,000 this month. There's got to be something wrong here. I'm off to investigate.
