We'll Be Sending Them Up Chimneys Next

Instanta has found the solution to the recession. Free work experience trainees. Joining us today is our youngest ever worker Tom Foy who is spending two weeks working for us on our assembly line. Keen cyclist Tom (14) is a student at Bishops Rawstorne School Croston and found his way to his Instanta work experience via his super mum Judith who worked with me at Barclays Skelmersdale many moons ago. We hope that Tom enjoys his time with us and helps boost our profits by being highly productive. His free labour will make a big impact on our costings and got me thinking. Next week we've got Natalie's baby Olivia coming in to do the packing, Mario's Olivia doing export and Andy's Bethany is going to write the blog.

After spending Saturday photographing all the antiques I've been spending every spare minute preparing the eBay listings for my sale of the century. It's quite amazing how time consuming it can be to list things properly. I do hope it's worth the effort. I've got 53 things to sell at the moment and so far I have written 15 listings. I'm aiming to get that up to 19 and then have a break for a couple of weeks as packing 19 parcels can be demanding. I suppose I could always get Craig Mercer's Amelia to do a bit.

Am I alone in wondering what happened with swine flu? Two weeks ago the whole world was in danger of being wiped out by a pandemic and now? Nothing. On 30th April camera crews were rushing to report on anybody that sneezed. People with snuffles were being interviewed via mobile phone from their bedroom windows as if they had the plague. So has the pandemic disappeared having all been much ado about nothing or is there a more sinister solution? Maybe the pandemic is running out of control but the government has put a press embargo on the news in order to avoid widespread panic. But I don't think that's too realistic as it would have kept their expenses claims off the front page.

It seems that nothing can keep these two off the front pages. After three years of keeping us entertained with their talent (which is?), Peter Andre and Katie Price (aka Jordan) are getting divorced and appeared on the front page of every tabloid yesterday and even managed a half page in the Guardian. I don't want to be too cynical but what are the odds on the front pages being full of a reconciliation in the not too distant future?

The next dealer newsletter is well on its way and should be ready for mailing soon. We are using it to promote the new sous vide equipment and also report on some special offers which will be running on the blog daily during June.

We were a bit surprised when two massive DSV Roadferry wagons arrived at our goods out today to collect an order. It was a big order for over 100 boilers but it was only eleven pallets. Seems that the carriers misread the consignment weight as 14 tonnes. The actual weight? 1400 kilos.

I'm getting excited now as Saturday draws close and that means just one thing Eurovision. The biggest night of the year. I am Eurovision's biggest fan and can't wait. Marion has somehow managed to arrange a dinner party to coincide with this momentous occasion but fortunately our guests are arriving in the afternoon and the singing doesn't start until much later. I'll leave you today with the Georgian entry a song that you sadly won't be hearing on Saturday - it's been banned.
