That's The Spirit

It was good to see senior Instanta management entering into the spirit of Halloween on Friday with a Frankenstein's Monster Nick (above) and an Uncle Fester Gavin (below). Although I am not quite sure that it was suitable attire for a board meeting.

Actually they were at Gavin's Halloween party. Congratulations go to Gavin who celebrates his 41st birthday today. He joined Instanta over 21 years ago so is yet another Instanta employee who has spent over half his life with us. Having started as an assembly worker Gavin showed a keen interest in the engineering side of the business and went on to become a lathe operator establishing our very first engineering workshop. He backed up his hands-on skills with a day release BEng degree in manufacturing systems before going on to becoming our buyer and more recently an assistant director. Gav is a motorcycling enthusiast and season ticket holder at St Helens Saints rugby league club. He is a proud father to son Nick and has Instanta's longest commute living miles away in Horwich with partner Julie. (There's something to be proud of Gav - Instanta's longest commute). Have a great day.

After a hectic week last week we had a quiet weekend at home. It gave us the chance to catch up on a pile of housework and washing and ironing. I found time to watch the Spurs game and, whilst Liverpool may have had a couple of fortunate wins this season this was a time when they certainly didn't have any luck. I thought that they played really well and the scoreline must be one of the most flattering ever. Off to Anfield tomorrow night to watch the Athletico Madrid match. Should be a good one.

Strange happenings on the X Factor on Saturday. Daniel didn't even get into the bottom two. Although he didn't stoop to singing "Tears in Heaven" he did sing "Don't Leave Me This Way" which could certainly be taken as yet another reference to his poor wife. I am enjoying my customary flutter on the competition and at the moment win £101 if Diana, Laura or Alexandra win and lose £260 if Eggnog, Rachel or Daniel win. I think my money is safe at the moment and there's still plenty of time to trade the bets. As for the US Election I now win £75 if it's Barack and £75 if it's McCain. I think McCain's odds will plunge tomorrow and give me the chance to back Barack a little more.
