Happy Birthday Dave

Today we would like to wish our Operations Director David Wilson a very happy 45th birthday. Dave is on holiday at the moment and I can't take a fresh photo so here is an archive one of him (seated) together with assistant director Gavin Ford. Dave has worked for us for 29 years and has worked in almost every department except sales. In recent years he has been heavily involved in research and development and has had a huge input in the design of our latest equipment. He has also been largely responsible for Instanta's commitment to Environmental Management.Dave is a devoted father to Jack and Abbie and no doubt will have taken them on plenty of days out during his holiday. If you read this, have a great day Dave.

Another thing that Dave is good at is picking the scores in the Guardian Pick the Score competition. Dave forgot to post his predictions a few times last season but still finished in a respectable position. It's up and running again next week and we have two leagues. There is one for staff for which we pay prizes of £100, £50 and £25 and another for friends which is just for fun. If you would like to join in this season drop me an email and we'll send you an invite. Tony Lowe in our stores is the man to beat this time.

Gavin told me a great news story yesterday reported in the Bristol Evening Post. It seems that outside Bristol Zoo is a car park with 150 car and 8 coach spaces. It has been manned six days a week for 23 years by the same charming and very polite car park attendant with a ticket machine at a charge of £1 per car and £5 per coach.

On Monday 1 June he failed to turn up for work.

Bristol Zoo management phoned Bristol City Council to ask for a replacement attendant.

The council said "That car park is YOUR responsibility".

The zoo said "The attendant was employed by the City Council ..... wasn't he?"

The council said "What attendant?"

Gone missing is a man who has been taking daily car park fees amounting to £400 per day for the last 23 years.. No Tax.. No National Insurance and nobody knows who he was!!1

Great story Gav but is it true? It has all the makings of an urban myth and I'm sorry to say that's what it is.

And speaking of urban myths I've been playing this video over and over again to see if it's genuine as it defies belief.

Or could this perhaps be something like how it was done?
